今天再继续中国谚语/成语 | Today continuing the chinese idiom.

第10句:Killing Two Birds With One Stone

English explanation: To accomplish two objectives with a single action.
中文解释:1石2鸟, 1箭双雕。

I think this english phrase was inherited from chinese idiom, originate brought by our ancestors to foreign countries. Similar to to the phrase "Long time no see", it is not a formal english sentence although it's commonly used by westerners in their daily conversation. I heard that it was derived from Cantoness slang by the early immigration to U.S.A.

中为洋用了这次 . 俺估计这句英文短语是继承了中文成语,由先辈翻译我国的文化介绍到外国而流传开的。 就如俺们常说的“Long time no see" 1样,虽然老外平常的对话也用它,但它并不是正规的英文,听说是来源于由广东话, 白话的意思是”好耐冇见“,由早批到米国旧金山淘金的老华侨发明。8D

Examples|例句:
1)I join the football club, have fun games and meet new friends, it is killing two birds with one stone.
2)If we can get gas and have lunch at the next rest stop, we will be killing two birds with one stone.
Examples|例句:
I can not only learn english here , but also make friend with "不同凡水“,it is killing two birds with one stone。:114::114::114:

鸡年就快来了, 那末就“鸡”年说“鸡”语 | Year of rooster is just around the corner, let's talk about chicken idiom.

第11句: Stealing One Chicken Per Month

先来说个中国寓言:
从前有个小偷每1天都从邻居那里偷 1只鸡。 别人劝告说“这样做是不道德的”, 他回答说“那末俺就少偷些吧,以后按俺改为每1个月偷1只鸡, 然后到下1年就不偷了”

Once upon the time, there is a man who used to steal one chicken from his neighbor every day. He was told, ‘This is not the way a moral man should behave.’ ‘Well, then I’ll reduce the number of chickens I steal,’ he replied, “I’ll steal only one chicken every month and next year I won’t steal any more.’

English explanation:
“A chicken a month” is a chinese idiom, refers to those who know what they are doing is wrong and yet do not immediately correct themselves.
中文解释: (大家说呢?)

[注意] 这是句中国谚语, 不1定会所有的外国人所知的,慎用。 在俺接触的老外中,印象中好像没听他们用过, 因此俺没有举出例句8D。 虽然如此, 俺认为应该向老外推广,教老外们学习它,相信老外听了寓言故事后会记得它的 久而久之,就会成为常用句了。

继续“鸡”年说“鸡”语 | Continue to talk about idiom about hen / chicken / rooster whatever

第12句: (as) scare as hens' teeth

Definition: When something is very rare and hard to find.

Example:
1)Out in the Australian desert water is as scarce as hens’ teeth. It is bloody dry, that’s for sure’
2)A handsome guy like 不同凡水 is as scarce as hens' teeth

众所周知,鸡是没牙齿的,如果有,那真是稀有了。
we all know that hens or chicken do not have teeth so hen’s teeth are indeed scarce

[注意] 有些时候看到的写法是 “as screce as hen's teeth". 留个问题给大家: 在这里, hen's 和 hens' 是否可通用? 还是其中1个比较好些呢? 8D

They both sat down apologised to one another about the misunderstanding that made them both wrong.
想问出处是哪里,这句里好像有错误,sat down (and) appologised to (one the othe)r, 两个动词过去分词不能连在一起用的,不应该是one another 吧!
